I am a Fiddler - Violinist from Carmyllie, Angus, on the East Coast of Scotland. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Music, and an Associate of the London College Teaching Diploma (ALCM(TD)). I have been playing the violin since age 7, classically trained and passed my Grade 8 Violin exam with distinction. I found a passion for Scottish Fiddle music early on and at age 9 I joined Dundee Strathspey and Reel Society, where, under the tutelage of Bob Edwards, I entered and won my first national fiddle competition aged 10. As a soloist I competed all over Scotland including invitation only contests at Glamis Castle. In 1991 I won Scottish Junior Fiddle Champion at the renowned Mussleburgh festival. At age 14 I travelled to Germany to perform in Wurzburg with Dundee Strathspey and Reel Society, and was awarded their young musician of the year later that year. My teenage years saw me perform at international music and dance festivals across Europe including Austria, France, Holland, and Switzerland, and more recently I have travelled to Norway and Belgium to entertain.
I regularly perform alongside some of Scotland's Finest Musicians on a freelance basis. I can provide a Ceilidh band to suit your needs and budget, with disco options also available. Please contact me on the form below to enquire about music for your event.
Bands I have played in previously include Sporran Again; SidebySide; Callanish; The Lomond Ceilidh Band; The Gallivanters; Kinlochard Ceilidh Band; The Tay Ceilidh Band; Heidrum; and Celtic Group Makinadin with whom I recorded an Album at Redbarn Studios.
I play bagpipes for Carnoustie and District Pipe band, and have competed in grade 3A including the World and European Pipe Band Championships.
I have over 20 years teaching experience and currently teach for schools within Angus Council, as well as running my own private teaching practise. I have full disclosure from Disclosure Scotland PVG scheme and also hold a certificate in basic first aid.
